Don’t assume that Strisselspalt has anything to do with the Spalt region in Germany. Spalt simply means “quality,” and “Strissel” means “bouquet.” A certain Mr. Stammback (former Secretary General of the Alsace Hop Growers Association) is credited with its creation<\/em> . He reportedly tried to cultivate Bavarian hops in Alsace around 1882, without much success, mainly due to the differences in climate. This didn’t stop him from crossbreeding to obtain more suitable varieties, eventually finding one he named “Strisselspalt.” However, it was primarily from 1989 onwards that this hop variety was more intensively produced. <\/p>\n

By analyzing its composition more closely, we realize that the “Striss” has similarities with the Hallertau Mittelfr\u00fch.<\/p>\n

It is a very old hop, with generally quite low yields, but which has endured over time thanks to the place it has taken in French beer recipes.<\/p>\n
