Created in 1912, the LPO is the first association of nature protection in France. It is also the official French representative of BirdLife International, a world alliance gathering more than 120 associations in the world.
Its three main fields of action are (we take here the elements from their website 😉 ):
Knowing and Protecting Species
Knowledge
-National avifauna surveys to guide conservation actions and public policies.
-Participatory science programs such as "Faune France", "Oiseaux des jardins" or "Mission hérisson".
Protection actions
-Species preservation programs and reintroduction of endangered birds.
-Partnerships to reduce the impacts of developments on wildlife and biodiversity in general.
Activist actions
-Defense and implementation of actions favorable to endangered species through advocacy.
-Actions for the respect of protected species and fight against poaching or hunting abuse.
Assistance actions
-Home to thousands of animals in distress in its rescue centers and mobile care units.

-Implementation of agricultural and forestry management measures favourable to biodiversity.
-Advice to better take into account and preserve nature for members, administrations, local authorities and companies.
Protection of nature in the vicinity
-Refuges LPO: 1st network of ecological gardens in France intended for the private individuals, schools or companies, communities committed in a concrete step of protection of nature.
-Actions aimed at the actors of the development and urban planning for a better integration of the biodiversity in the city and on the building.

-Catalog of nature stays, in France or abroad to discover exceptional sites.
-Training/MOOC for professionals or amateurs in ornithology and nature protection.
Publishing and communication
-Publishing of LPO magazines : L'OISEAU MAG and its special issue on birds of prey in France, L'OISEAU MAG Junior and Ornithos ; publication of reference books with many publishers ; regular diffusion of information to the media and to the general public. LPO store
-Rigorous selection of eco-responsible products which allow to act daily and to consume in a responsible and eco-citizen way. All the profits finance the actions of protection of the nature of the LPO.
