Meeting with the VOLtige Brewery

The Voltige Brewery

September 2024: Meeting with Lisa!

VOLTIGE is a brewery located in the Auvergne region, in the town of Saint-Laurent-Chabreuges in Haute-Loire. Situated on a former quarry, it is very close to the town of Brioude but enjoys a verdant setting in the heart of nature.

It was created in 2022-2023, thanks to the association and determination of 4 partners: Lisa, Gaëlle, Pierre-Olivier and Valentin.

The name VOLTIGE comes from Valentin’s passion for flying; he’s one of the founding partners. This also makes for some attractive labels:

The brewing process takes place in 20hl batches using 10 fermenters of 40hl each, so the brewing process takes… two days! Good, you’re following along 😉 Here are a few pictures of the brewery:

The brewery is also equipped with a bottling line for 33cl and 75cl bottles.

The water is a real asset to the brewery; it’s not hard. Not at all. This means there’s no limescale, which is a real plus for equipment maintenance. And, as an added bonus, it’s spring water from the Cézallier volcanic plateau; no treatment or additives are necessary, it’s perfect just as it is.

In addition to using very high-quality water, Voltige demonstrates a strong environmental awareness on a daily basis. Zero water wasted, zero spent grains lost: a group of farmers operates a methanizer near the brewery, so all water and spent grains are utilized; either in the methanizer or as animal feed.

Individuals also come to collect the spent grains to feed their chickens!

Hops and Beers

Beer tasting from the range. Yum! Source: HOPSTORE

Voltige uses Hopstore hops in the following beers:

For now, Voltige does not make bottom-fermented beers, but for a limited-edition beer, why not?

Voltige brewery beers are distributed as far as Vichy, in the Cantal and Puy-de-Dôme regions, and beyond. They are also available at wine shops, garden centers, delicatessens, bars, and restaurants. The brewery has a few distributors in the Haute-Loire region, including in Clermont-Ferrand.

Of all her activities, Lisa’s favorite is definitely…brewing! “It makes for beautiful days, it smells wonderful…” And more specifically, her favorite is the Amber ale that smells like “toast” (we regretted for a few seconds not having stumbled upon a brewing day for this treat 😊). When it comes to tasting it, our brewer prefers either the IPA or the Amber.
