WE SUPPORT MIGHTY EARTH

Defending endangered ecosystems is important, isn't it? So we support those who do!

WHO IS MIGHTY EARTH?

"Mighty Earth transforms industries by creating a "perfect storm" of campaigns, communications and grassroots engagement with decision-makers that can quickly disrupt even the most entrenched interests. Our work aims to break the link between economic growth and environmental destruction by creating a virtuous circle of private sector, government and community action. To achieve this, we don't just draw attention to the bad actors. We apply strategic pressure, targeting key elements of value chains to catalyze industry-wide change. While we collaborate with companies to propose concrete solutions, we also preserve our independence to ensure that we can hold these companies to account if they fail to deliver on their promises.

Mighty Earth is working to mitigate the worst effects of global warming. Our goal is to halt and reverse deforestation, protect communities, save endangered species and foster a living planet for generations to come. We strive to transform industries, improve government policies, protect nature and secure the rights of indigenous and local communities, who are the best custodians of our forests and landscapes.

We turn the impossible into reality: ending deforestation, achieving gigaton-scale climate gains, saving endangered species and supporting the rights of indigenous communities. We're not afraid to go where we're needed, and to do what it takes to inspire industries and governments to transform the way they do business."

THREE MAIN AXES

Protecting nature

"We work around the world to protect the most vulnerable landscapes threatened by deforestation, mining, logging and infrastructure projects. We are pushing for systemic change where the supply chains of the food we eat and the products we buy are based on protection of the Earth and respect for human rights.

We support indigenous and local communities whose lives are threatened by deforestation and land grabbing.

Our global campaigns expose companies that threaten local communities, ensure their rights are recognized and their voices heard in the corridors of power.

With a million species threatened with extinction, we're working hard to defend a living planet in this crucial decade of action. Every species on Earth has a role to play in sustaining a healthy planet, but human activity is destroying precious habitats and causing ecosystems to collapse. Our survival depends on nature, from the air we breathe to the water we drink and the food we eat. Right now, it needs a helping hand.

Every month, we combine satellite imagery with supply chain data to identify the global agribusinesses responsible for new cases of deforestation caused by the palm oil, soy and livestock industries. We recently launched a program for West African cocoa. We then act swiftly to hold these companies to account and ensure they implement their environmental policies before further damage is done."

Decarbonizing industry

"Heavy industrial materials such as steel, aluminum and cement are responsible for almost 40% of global carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. Steel accounts for 8% of greenhouse gases (GHGs) each year, and global steel demand is set to increase by 30% by 2050. To meet climate targets, steel emissions intensity will need to fall by 93% to 100% by 2050. To meet the increased demand and stay on track for net zero emissions by 2050, the world needs 70 new green steel mills by 2030.

The aluminium sector is responsible for 1.1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide pollution per year, around 2% of global emissions. It is estimated that by 2050, demand for primary aluminum will increase by 40%, while demand for recycled aluminum will triple. More than 60% of emissions from the aluminum sector come from the electricity, most often from coal, used during the smelting process."

Tracing the supply lines of General Motors and branding Hyundai for their immoral practices are just some of the field actions carried out by the NGO.

We STRONGLY support these actions 👊

Transforming Agriculture

"We track deforestation and investigate supply chains to create and maintain pressure on major agricultural companies with proven links to the destruction of nature. Our investigations have revealed that these companies and commodity traders still lack control over their supply chains, allowing deforestation to infiltrate through direct and indirect suppliers. Our campaigns also target global retailers at the end of the supply chain, to break ties with suppliers involved in deforestation and land grabbing, to ensure that products on supermarket shelves are not linked to deforestation.NONE OF US WANTS TO EAT DEFORESTATION"

IT'S YOUR TURN TO PLAY

Do you think these actions are important and would like to support them?

It's over here 😉

And a short 3-minute film for an overview of what they do. WARNING: the soundtrack is unbearable and the commentary in English, so please mute it 😉
