Forestry, Solidarity

In March, we give to Planting for the Future

As you now know, we have decided to donate 1% of our monthly turnover to a different charity/cause every month.

Members of the HOPSTORE ecosystem (employees and partners) take it in turns to choose who to give to.

Buying from HOPSTORE means buying certified Organic, but not only that!

This month we have decided to support the preservation of our French forest.

Why is this initiative important?

The renewal of the French forest is in danger!

Although the surface area of French forests increased during the second half of the 20th century, thanks in particular to natural growth on agricultural land, its surface area has stabilised at around 16 million hectares since the beginning of the century, and its sustainability is no longer assured.

Without planting, French forests will no longer be able to meet the growing demand for wood, to participate in the energy transition (eco-construction, renewable energy, green chemistry, etc.), or to fully play their role as a key player in the sustainable development of the territories: protection of water and soil, maintenance of biodiversity, fight against climate change, maintenance and creation of jobs that cannot be relocated...

The natural regeneration of forests is no longer sufficient to meet the growing need for wood and the development of a Organic-sourced economy.

75% of the French forest is privately owned by more than 3 million owners, most of whom own only a few hectares and whose resources are insufficient to ensure reforestation. With the reduction in state and local authority subsidies, forest planting has fallen by more than 50% in France, and without support for reforestation, many forest owners are unable to ensure the renewal of stands that are often dying, victims of bad weather or unsuited to climate change.

The benefits of planting

"Planting makes it possible to introduce species adapted to the climatic changes and economic needs of tomorrow, through improved forest varieties that have a broader genetic base than those of natural stands, which gives them greater adaptability and results in more resistant stands.

How does Planting for the Future work on the ground?

Planting for the Future is a private, non-political and independent endowment fund working on the themes of "Planting", "Raising awareness" and "Innovating".

Created in September 2014, its purpose, as part of its general interest mission contributing to the defence of the natural environment, is to relaunch reforestation in France within the framework of sustainable management.

352 projects have been supported throughout France, representing 2,300,000 trees on 2,100 ha reforested.
