In April, the United Nations Refugee Agency was supported

As you now know, we have decided to donate 1% of our monthly turnover to a different charity/cause every month.

Members of the HOPSTORE ecosystem (employees and partners) take it in turns to choose who to give to.

Buying from HOPSTORE means buying certified Organic, but not only that!

This month we have decided to support an organisation that helps people who, for one reason or another, have to flee their home country.

Why is this initiative important?

The work of this organisation aims to guarantee the right to find asylum and a safe haven for anyone who has had to flee their country.

And when you look at the figures more closely, you can see how necessary this action is, unfortunately.

More than 82.4 million people worldwide have been forced to flee their homes. Among them are almost 26.4 million refugees, more than half of whom are under 18 years old.

There are also millions of stateless people who have been deprived of nationality and access to basic rights such as education, health care, employment and freedom of movement.

Currently 1 in 95 people have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict or persecution, making the work of UNHCR more important than ever.

A word of history

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on 14 December 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. Its mandate is to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and seek solutions to refugee problems worldwide.

UNHCR's primary goal is to safeguard the rights and welfare of refugees. The organisation strives to ensure that the right to seek asylum and to find refuge in another state is respected for all. Its ultimate solutions are return to the country of origin, integration in the host country or resettlement in a third country.

For more than six decades, UNHCR has helped millions of people start a new life. Today, UNHCR's staff of more than 17,878 in 132 countries provide protection and assistance to 91.9 million refugees, returnees, internally displaced people and stateless people.

In addition, in the Middle East, some 5.7 million registered refugees fall under the jurisdiction of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
