Analysis of the oils and interpretation

This batch is a perfect example of what is called a "Complete" profile. It does not choose between resinous power and noble elegance: it offers both with remarkable intensity.

The Dynamic Duo: Myrcene & Humulene

This is the major characteristic of this batch. The two main oils are at very high levels simultaneously.

  • Myrcene (43.60%) : Brings a very fresh attack on pine and citrus zest .

  • Humulene (24.42%) : This is one of your highest levels for this compound. It provides a precious, earthy, and very noble woody base that gives body and persistence to the taste.

  • Result: A beer that has a "nose" from the start but remains long on the palate with a signature of traditional hops.

The "Rose" Signature (Geraniol: 1.43%)

We have a very significant peak in Geraniol here.

  • Sensory result: Geraniol provides a note of rose and geranium . Combined with linalool (0.77%) , which brings lavender, this batch develops a heady floral bouquet that softens the strength of the myrcene.

Balance and Purity

  • Caryophyllene (7.05%) : A moderate level which, compared to Humulene (Ratio ~3.5), guarantees a very fine bitterness and discreet spicy notes, without any harshness.

  • Farnesene (0.05%) : Total absence of vegetal or green apple notes. The profile is very clean.

Advice for the Brewer

Nectaron is a structure hop. It is ideal for giving aromatic "foundation" to a beer:

  • Usage: It is excellent in a whirlpool (80°C) . At this temperature, you will extract the maximum amount of Geraniol and Humulene without excessively volatilizing the Myrcene, creating a perfect floral-resinous balance.

  • Recommended style: An IPA , a Strong Lager , a modern Belgian Tripel , or a reimagined English Pale Ale . This hop has enough "backbone" to support beers with a bit of malty body.

An excellent choice for a beer with character but harmonious.
