La Brasserie Voltige
September 2024: Meet Lisa!
VOLTIGE is a brewery located in the Auvergne region, in the commune of Saint-Laurent-Chabreuges in the Haute-Loire. Located on a former quarry, the brewery is very close to the town of Brioude, but benefits from a green setting in the heart of nature.
It came into being in 2022-2023, thanks to the association and determination of 4 partners: Lisa, Gaëlle, Pierre-Olivier and Valentin.
The name VOLTIGE comes from Valentin's, one of the founding partners, passion for flying. Which also makes for attractive labels:
Brewing is done in 20hl with 10 fermenters of 40hl so brews are done in ... two days! That's good, you follow 😉 Some pictures of the brewery:
The brewery is also equipped with a bottling line for 33cl and 75cl bottles.
The water is a real asset to the brewery: it's not hard. At all. Which means there's no limescale, which is a real plus for equipment maintenance. And, what's more, it's spring water from the Cézallier volcanic plateau; no treatment or additives are needed, it's just the way it is:
In addition to top-quality water, at Voltige you can count on a daily environmental conscience. 0 wasted water, 0 lost spent grains: a group of farmers has a methanizer near the brewery, so all the water and spent grains are recycled, either in the methanizer or as animal feed:
Private individuals also come to collect spent grain to feed their chickens!
Hops and beers
Voltige usesHopstore hops in the following beers:
- TETTNANGER for the double
- HULL MELON for the blonde
- CASCADE for amber
- PILGRIM for an ephemeral
For the moment, Voltige doesn't make bottom-fermented beers, but for a short-lived beer, why not?
The Voltige brewery's beers are distributed as far afield as Vichy, Cantal, Puy de Dôme, etc., as well as in wine shops, garden centers, delicatessens, bars and restaurants. The brewery has a number of distributors in the Haute-Loire region, as well as in Clermont-Ferrand.
Whatever the activity, Lisa's favorite thing to do is... brew! "It makes for beautiful days, it smells good...". And more specifically, the little darling is Ambrée, which smells like "toast" (we regretted for a few seconds that we hadn't stumbled upon a day brewing this delicacy 😊). To taste, it's a toss-up between the IPA and the Ambrée for our brewer.
